How We Did It
The show is powered mainly by Light-O-Rama controllers. There are 224 Light-O-Rama channels on 14 controllers. Also used is a 16 channel Allen Bradley SLC-500 plc.
Using the controllers allows us to control the lights by computer so that they appear animated and dance in sync to the music. There are a total of 4 songs used in the show. Each song takes about 30 hours to program to the lights.
We used 64,196 lights; 6,427 feet of extension cords; drawing 204 amps.
The music is broadcast using a low power FM transmitter by Ramsey Electronics on FM 97.7. We intend to operate this non-licensed transmitter in compliance with FCC Rules part 15. The frequency was chosen based on searches of non-used / non-licensed frequencies in our area.
The mega trees are 20 feet tall, made of 1" iron pipe, and has 12,800 lights. 6,400 white and 6,400 colored.
The small trees are made of 1/4" round steel stock welded together and each tree has 300 lights.
